Movement Angol Productions FLATFEET 2007
Saturday 27 October 2007 at 8pm
DanceXchange, The Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome, Hurst Street, Birmingham, B5 4TB
An evening of stimulating contemporary dance highlighting the creative developments within the field of African dance in Britain. Francis Angol will be joined by international guest artist, performer/choreographer Serge-Aimé Coulibaly of Burkina Faso, and Jane Sekonya, a previous fellowship artist of the Arts Council of England and recipient of the ADAD (Association of Dance of the African Diaspora) Trailblazers award.
Angol presents Physically Masculine performed by an all male cast, looking at a male’s rite of passage through life. Coulibaly presents his newly commissioned solo Minimini, an exploration of the frustration of colliding with the obstacles of today’s society when you want to express yourself freely. Sekonya brings her poise and elegance as performer/choreographer to present The Boyfriend, a bittersweet love duet featuring a pre-menstrual woman and her hapless boyfriend. Jane’s work not only exhibits the diversity in British dance, but exposes the broad nature of the African People’s dance sector in Britain.
An amazing line up of dance that is sure to inspire minds and enrich souls with its rhythm, movement and expression.
