Shakespearian Public Service Announcements

In a unique collaboration between Fierce!, The RSC and the University of Birmingham Shakespeare Institute we propose to record a series of everyday public service announcements spoken in the basis of Shakespeare’s verse and the natural meter of English narrative poetry – Iambic Pentameter. They will then be broadcast at public locations across Birmingham and Stratford.

These pre-recorded announcements will be targeted at visitors traveling by train and bus between Birmingham and Stratford and Stratford and London and those coming into the region via Birmingham International Airport. In addition to announcements at railway/bus stations and on trains and buses, announcements will be made in public and retail spaces in the centre of Birmingham and Stratford. They will then be recorded by some of the RSC’s most distinguished and easily vocally identifiable associate artists

To accompany the transmission of the recordings a series of large posters promoting the project will be produced and displayed at rail/bus/public sites in Birmingham and Stratford. The posters will invite listeners to submit their own announcements in Iambic Pentameter via both Fierce Festival and the RSC’s websites.
