Over the next four years the CBSO will be collaborating with Birmingham Royal Ballet, Symphony Hall, Birmingham Hippodrome and other partners to perform the complete cycle of all the works of arguably the greatest composer of the last century, Igor Stravinsky. We begin with four works that show just some of the composer’s extraordinary range: from the youthful brilliance of his first major orchestral work, Scherzo fantastique, and first ballet, The Firebird, to the timeless rituals of Symphony of Psalms via the charmingly neo-classical Concerto in D for Strings, this opening programme is also a showcase for the CBSO and its Choruses.
