Birmingham International Jazz festival - The Electric Sessions

Venue: This year's prestigious festival is being held at The Electric Cinema on Station Street. The oldest working cinema has recently been fully-restored to its 1930s Art Deco state . With a capacity of 108, it provides an intimate and ideal environment in which to enjoy live music.

The Electric Sessions will provide a focal point for the jazz festival, providing a dedicated music venue in which to present performances by local, national and international musicians as well as workshops, masterclasses, schools projects, youth orchestras, showcases, a young musicians contest and the hosting of the 2006 British Jazz Awards.

Between the performances, the festival will present jazz films ranging from archive material through to classic jazz feature films and up to the Birmingham premiere performance of the new Albert Ayler documentary.

After-hours sessions will provide a stimulating and creative environment for young musicians to perform alongside leading and established players.

Performers at the The Electric Sessions include: Shuffle Demons (Canada), James Hunter Band (USA/UK), Mishka Adams (Philippines), Gilad Atzmon (Israel), High Brass, Lady Sings The Blues, The British Jazz Awards, Doodlin’ (France), Puppini Sisters, The Lazy Jumpers (Spain), Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra, Sandwell Youth Jazz Orchestra, Walsall Youth Jazz Orchestra, Solihull Music Services and Dudley Music Services.
